As competitors get stronger and faster, the United Kingdom is beginning to prove that it too has some immense talent of its own, ready to follow in the footsteps of 2013 CrossFit Games champion Samantha Briggs.

Here are six to keep an eye on in 2015.

1. Steven Fawcett, CrossFit JST

  • 2nd in Europe for week one of the 2015 Open
  • 7th at European Regionals in 2014
  • 2nd at the Battle of London in 2014

One of the UK’s consistently top performers

Steven is a very solid all-rounder, and very strong overhead, with some great lifts in the clean and jerk, and snatch.

He put up 143kg (315lbs) in the clean and jerk for 15.1a

2. Emma McQuaid, CrossFit 8020

  • 4th in Europe for Open 15.1/15.1a
  • 11th at The Athlete Games in 2015
  • 1st at The Titanic Games in 2014

There’s not a huge amount of information on Emma, but with a posted maximum clean and jerk of 103kg (227lbs) and 96kg (212lbs) clean and jerk for 15.1a, she’s definitely strong.

This Northern Irish quad biker finished 11th at The Athlete Games, and is going to give the Icelandic something to think about.

3. Steph Dekker, CrossFit Glasgow

  • 3rd at The Athlete Games in 2015
  • 16th and 17th place at European Regionals 13/14 respectively

Steph fought hard to go from 13th at the Battle of London in 2013, to 3rd at The Athlete Games in 2015. The 25-year-old looks set to give the Scandinavians a run for their money in the Open and at Regionals.

4. Phil Hesketh, CrossFit InnerFight Dubai

  • 1st at The Athlete Games in 2015
  • Joint 1st in the Asia Regionals in 2014
  • 14th at European Regionals in 2013

Phil crushed The Athlete Games back in January this year, and now trains at CrossFit InnerFight in Dubai.

As a former rugby player, Phil is massively powerful and is known on the Crossfit scene for delivering strongman seminars. Expect to see him putting up some big numbers in 2015.

5. Laura Faulkner, CrossFit Bath

  • 20th at The Athlete Games in 2015
  • Bronze at the English Weightlifting Championships in 2015
  • 16th at European Regionals in 2014

Laura is a CrossFit athlete and weightlifter, training with the British Weightlifting Squad. She competes in the 53kg (117 lbs) category, and pound-for-pound, puts up some huge numbers.

Light, fast and very strong, expect the unexpected from this 22-year-old British talent.

6. Alec Harwood, CrossFit Bath

  • 6th at The Athlete Games in 2015
  • 6th at European Regionals as part of Team CrossFit Bath

A strong guy and very consistent performer. Alec represents himself, his team and the UK Crossfit scene well at events, and put up 138kg (304lbs) in the clean and jerk for 15.1a.

Good luck to all of our British athletes this year!
