Remember last year when we published an article on Su Henriques? The story of a brave athlete from Portugal, who through our sport and with a pure determination changed her life and lost 100 kilos?
Su’s story started with: “I lost 100 kilos in 12 months. I really hope I have your attention now, because this story needs to be told.” Constantly changing foster homes as a child and starting gaining weight when she was 16, straight after her mother passed away. She went into a deep depression, stopped with gymnastics and began to eat compulsively. During those years she managed to reach her max weight of 170.9 kilos.

Her journey opened up my eyes and taught me to appreciate life a bit more. So here’s my update on Su’s progress and her journey to get healthier and fitter.
Since we last published her story Su has participated in many competition finals around Portugal. She even made it to the international event Kings of WOD in Madrid.
The biggest challenge of 2014 was the hard decision of going through a long and painful medical surgery to remove the excess skin due to her rapid weight loss. This medical intervention was possible partly because of our Crossfit community in Portugal and around Europe, who listened to Su’s pledge on Facebook, asking for our support. Within weeks she had the money to go ahead with it. So right here she would like to thank everyone who helped and made a donation.
Her story inspires me. I realized all the banal things we all complain about don’t mean a thing. It’s just stuff, just that, material things that mean nothing. Every time I read the article again I feel guilty for worry about things that don’t even matter.
