Box chat:
How did you come to CrossFit?
I found out about it after my professional rugby carreer had ended (in Europe) and I had moved to San Diego to take up a player coach roll with the local team there (OMBAC). Two of the boys on the team had started playing with Crossfit and asked if I like to get involved on a Saturday morning with them. I am glad I did because since leaving a professional environment I was filling the whole left behind with badness, and Crossfit couldn’t of enter my life at a better time.
Why did you open your own box?
Because I wanted to create an environment which was “BS free” and hard work was the only way you could progress. The way the world should be. Oh and I like to push people way beyond what they think they are capable off.
Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?
Because of the level of our coaches and the way they are incentivised to keep every member under them progressing and accountable for achieving their goals.
How does your member structure look like?
London 285 members, Dublin 350 members. And 60/40 split men to women (but the women we have make you feel its 60/40 in their favour). Besides London has 20 members over 40 and Dublin has 30 members over 40.
Michael has competed at European Regionals 2011. We have a few strong youngsters and masters that are placing well at local competitions.
Do you have additional training possibilities (yoga, gymnastics etc.)?
Personal training –The only way to be skill up to enter group training (meeting Perpetua benchmarks).
– Yoga for athletes.
– Silver back club – over 40’s.
– Kids and women specialty program coming.
Do you consult your members in nutrition?
We are participants in the WLC (Whole life challenge). 55 members signed up for January. The amazing Kortney runs our nutrition event in Dublin.
If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?
We follow Madlab Group professional business systems. The funnel for new prospect clients is a first day session 1-1 with a coach, 20 min talk on Glassman’s “what is fitness” article, physical assessment and a WOD – Baseline. The client is then moved into PT for 10-15 sessions where we skill up, educate, address weakness and build their fitness, so they are ready for group training. They graduate from PT once they meet the Perpetua standards. Once you move into a class the coach they were to assigned to will be there to welcome them in the group.
Do you organize any internal or open competitions?
We do 4 in house for all levels, a home and away with our sister gym in Dublin. And we make a big deal for the Open which we call “Friday night lights”.
Do you have links to other boxes?
We welcome all Crossfitters to come and train with us. Our competitors take part in “Box Battles” a local league between London boxes.
Can I drop in if I am passing your city? Who do I have to contact?
Absolutely, we welcome all. Just drop a mail to admin@crossfitperpetua.com. Cost is 25£ per session or 80 for the full week of training.
