Dana Linn Bailey began to suffer from Rhabdo after completing a CrossFit workout involving GHD sit ups.
“I just so happen to do this the first day of CrossFit, doing GHD sit-ups. I’ve done them before, but I guess not to the capacity I did them with this workout.”
“I’ve sorta waiting till I found out everything is getting better and I am going to make a full recovery. And my last lab results showed significant improvement. Everyone give a read because this can happen to anyone whether you are new to lifting or have been training for 15+ years…if you are competitive like me, this can happen to you!! It’s hard to tell an athlete, don’t go so hard and take it easy…”

What is “Rhabdo”
The syndrome is often caused by muscle damage from strenuous exercise (though other common causes can include trauma, infection, viruses, and drug use).
“Rhabdomyolysis is a complex medical condition involving the rapid dissolution of damaged or injured skeletal muscle. This disruption of skeletal muscle integrity leads to the direct release of intracellular muscle components, including myoglobin, creatine kinase (CK), aldolase, and lactate dehydrogenase, as well as electrolytes, into the bloodstream and extracellular space.”¹
Dana Linn Bailey recently competed on the excellent second series of the Brute Showdown with the following athletes:
- Brooke Ence – CrossFit Games Athlete, 2015 14th Fittest Woman on Earth.
- Mattie Rogers – Weightlifter, 2016 Olympic Team Alternate, Bronze Medalist at the 2017 World Championship, Silver Medalist at the 2018 World Championship.
- Maddy Forberg – Elite Powerlifter.
There she successfully completed CrossFit WOD “Christine” with absolutely no pain or problems.
