European female athletes put on a show and proved Meridian Regional is indeed the strongest region in the world. Out of seven Regional events, European women hold 4 event world records. Men are not far behind with two records in Randy and handstand walk.
Sara Sigmundsdottir: “I am going to win this region.”
Each year Europe gets stronger. Meridian Regional 2015 was no exception.
It started with the French Throwdown, continued with Italian Throwdown and The Athlete Games, and when Sara Sigmundsdottir won the East Coast Championship in the States it was clear she will be a tough contender for this year`s CrossFit Games season.
If a two-time CrossFit Games champion Annie Thorisdottir ruled the European Regionals in the previous years, not losing a single one, 2015 challenged her to let go of the initial plan and dig deep for all seven events ahead.
At the end it was Sara Sigmundsdottir who took the overall win and became the female Merdian Regional champion. Followed by three other Icelandic women, Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir, Annie Thorisdottir, Thuridur Erla Helgadottir and Norwegian Kristin Holte.

Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir dominated the handstand walk and set an event record with the time of 1:19.
Kristin Holte holds the record for the event 3. She finished the chipper workout in 23 minutes and 53 seconds. Only 10 women worldwide completed this workout. Three of them are from Europe.
Along Sara, Katrin and Kristin, Oxana Slivenko snatched 210 lbs (95 kg) and set another event record for the Meridian Regional.
Four wins and another Regional title for Jonne Koski
Jonne Koski had one goal ahead: to win the Regional second year in a row. He started strong by winning Randy, Tommy V and the chipper event three. One-rep max snatch, 18th place, was his worst finish, but 5th place in the handstand walk, 4th in event 6 and another win in the muscle-ups cleans sprint kept him solidly in first.
Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson finished 2nd, ahead of Steven Fawcett, Lukas Högberg and Phil Hesketh. Jonne, Björgvin and Lukas have all been to the CrossFit Games last year, while Steven and Phil are the newcomers and the first British male athletes to qualify for the big event in July.
