This exciting new team sport is something like what you might see at the Regional’s or Games but a lot shorter, faster and only two teams racing head to head.
Co-ed teams of 5 males and 5 females go head to head over a series of races, with unlimited substitutions.
GRID is not only suited to top level functional fitness athletes but also gymnastics and weightlifting specialists. Dmitry Klokov, for example, is on the Baltimore Anthem Grid team this season.
Ireland hosts the first ever European Grid Tournament
With a maximum prize of €10,000 for the winning team, Grid has certainly made its mark.
Grid Ireland (formerly MyStudio) and the home of CrossFit Navan host the event on August 1st. A maximum of ten European teams may enter squads of 14 athletes with a requirement for at least two masters 35+. Teams do not have to come from the same gym/box. The event comes hot on the heels of a very successful “Grid Invitational” event with the support of BLK BOX (formerly EFP Gyms in Belfast). The very best Irish athletes came together for a one day event at Grid Ireland in Navan in April.

When it came to sourcing an equipment supplier BLK BOX were the first port of call for Grid Ireland. BLK BOX recently rebranded from EFP Gyms and specialise in manufacturing quality strength equipment and designing Functional Gyms from their HQ in Belfast. BLK BOX has formed an early partnership with Grid Ireland to provide world class custom equipment for each event.
The Grid Ireland Summer Tournament, powered by BLK BOX, will have 2 separate events. August 1st is for European Teams and August 2nd for Irish Provincial Teams. For more details on the competition & how to enter visit www.gridireland.ie
